Ankita Kabra's profile

The Flying Boy at Cubbon Park metro stn, Bengaluru

Cubbon park metro station of Bengaluru, according to me is a space owned by the people who commute often by this mode of transport. It's also owned by the people taking care of this space, like the officials, guards and cleaners.
In order to make all these people a part of my intervention, as an invader, is my intention. I see the space more like who makes it, and not what it is made up of. How can one relate with the art present in their space and also interact with it as their own?
The idea is to give people a new activity to deal with while traveling and enjoy it. Small conversations allows me to know about their daily routine, their profession, interests and the will to engage in artistic exercises. It also motivates me to do something new with textiles and think about how I can make it interactive, innovative and insightful for people who have nothing to do with art and design.

The "Cyanotype kid", as an idea was executed in 3 days time. One day was taken to print as many fabric pieces possible in various shades and two days in making the boy.
Theme: was decided after 2 days of understanding the space.
Result: fluttering of each piece as the metro bolted to the station
            public interaction
            photo spot
            distraction in normal route
            curiosity

Process:

A photographic, sun printing method.
Two chemicals are applied in a dark room :ammonium iron III citrate and potassium ferricyanide
Location: Cubbon park metro station, blr

People started to pose and interact by moving the cloth pieces
